Yoga nidra is a technique in which you learn to relax consciously. A method of complete physical, mental and emotional relaxation, without sleeping, an experience you are aware of. You may feel you are asleep, and often people do fall a sleep during the practice, which is also fine, because it may be what is needed. But over time, the practice leads to a deeper relaxation with inner awareness.
In a yoga nidra practice the mind is taken through a technique which brings about a state of awareness leading to deep relaxation. The technique can last as little as 20 minutes and up to 1 hour. The technique are instructions to focus on different body parts of the body. You do not need to remember anything you just allow the whole process to take place. This process creates relaxation in the mind, body, emotional and spiritual level.
